We are a graduate data science team in the Math Department at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. We will be graduating within the year and thought it would be helpful to provide aspiring data scientists with some of the insights we've gained during our time in the Data Science program at UNO. There is a lot of talk out there about R and Python and which language is best for data science. Well, we're going to let you be the judge on this one!
We are providing you with modules to practice some basic data science skills. Within each module you will find code in both R and Python. The first line of code will be in R and the following in Python. Try these out; and see what you think. We hope a lively conversation / debate will ensue in the comment section below each module. We really want to hear your thoughts about the modules, data science, and of course your opinions on R and Python.
If you stay the course and work through all the modules you will gain an understanding of:
1. loading datasets into your programming environment from various sources
(we help you find datasets in a different place for each module)
2. four different basic data science techniques that will provide a nice foundation and be invaluable in your future studies, projects, and competitions
3. real world problem solving with data science
